Beneficial
Lactobacillus bacteria are often used in the making of yogurt, and Acidophilus is used along with Streptococcus salivarius and Lactobacillus delbrueckii ssp. bulgaricus to do so.
Acidophilus helps your intestines better digest food, prevents yeast disease and can strengthen the immune system.
Recently it has been proven that acidophilus can reduce cholesterol levels.
It replaces the friendly immune cells killed in your intestines.
They stop bad organisms from growing in the gasostrointestinal tract.
Interesting
Acidophilus is very acidic, usually kept in a pH of about 5 or lower.
Acidophilus can be found in the human stomach and mouth, and is killed by too much heat, moisture or direct sunlight.
Many antibiotics will accidentally kill helpful bacteria like Acidophilus, and so it is recommended that you take ingest a supplement to restore it.
Loss of Bacteria
Acidophilus strengthens the immune system, and it would be weaker in most intestinal tracts without Acidophilus helping it.
Your body wouldn’t be as adept at digesting food, which can lead to yeast disease.
More bad organisms would be able to grown in the gasostrointestinal tract if Lactobacillus Acidophilus was not present.
New Scientific/Medical Research
It is now believed that Lactobacillus Acidophilus will actually lower your cholesterol levels, although it’s not 100% positive yet.
It is now believed that Lactobacillus Acidophilus can relieve you of diarrhea and indigestion, although this hasn’t been confirmed either.
Acidophilus was just recently discovered, and not much is known about this bacteria.
